Steakhouses in Hanoi

Hanoi's steak scene runs from the street-side bít tết, a sizzling cast-iron pan of beef, egg and pâté eaten with bread, to hotel grills serving Japanese A5 Wagyu and independent steakhouses built around imported Australian and American beef.

Beef steak reached Hanoi through French cooking, and the city kept its own version: bít tết, thin slices of beef served sizzling in a cast-iron pan with a fried egg, potatoes, pâté and sauce, eaten with bread. Hòe Nhai street in Ba Đình has dozens of these shops side by side, and long-running addresses such as Lê Ngọc Hân and Hàng Cót are regularly named by the Vietnamese press. A plate costs roughly 60,000–70,000 VND.

Western-style steakhouses arrived later and fall into three groups: grills in international hotels (Sheraton, JW Marriott, InterContinental, Lotte), independent steakhouses in Hoàn Kiếm and Tây Hồ, and Japanese yakiniku and Korean barbecue restaurants. Almost all beef is imported, mainly from Australia, the United States and Japan; Vietnam produces little beef of steak grade. In-house dry aging and wood or charcoal fires are stated by only a handful of places.

The Michelin Guide has covered Hanoi since 2023. As of 2026 no Hanoi steakhouse holds a star or a Bib Gourmand; several hotel grills and one independent steakhouse appear as Selected restaurants.
