Steakhouses in Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City's steak scene combines long-running local beefsteak eateries with steakhouses built around imported Australian, American and Japanese beef, many of them grilling over wood or charcoal and dry-aging in-house.

Beefsteak has been part of Saigon's eating culture for decades. Small local eateries serve it with garlic, fries, pasta or salad; Quán Tín Hưng in District 5 had been serving its beefsteak for more than thirty years by 2017. International steakhouses arrived later. Au Lac Do Brazil, a churrascaria opened in 2003, is described as the city's first, and the El Gaucho chain started in the city in 2011.

Today most of the steakhouses sit in the former District 1, around Hai Bà Trưng, Lê Thánh Tôn, Pasteur and Nguyễn Huệ streets, with a second cluster in Thảo Điền, the riverside expatriate neighbourhood of the former District 2. Styles include wood-fired grills, a Basque-style asador, an Argentine-inspired chain, Japanese yakiniku and teppanyaki, and Korean barbecue.

Almost all steak beef is imported. The restaurants state Australian beef (Black Angus and Wagyu, including Woodward Wagyu), US beef (USDA Prime and Certified Angus Beef), Japanese A4–A5 Wagyu and Argentine Black Angus. Dry aging is stated by several places, from more than 21 days at Stoker to 45–100 days at PRIME. In the Michelin Guide, Stoker's District 1 restaurant is listed as a steakhouse (2024 edition). The Gourmet Vietnam Awards, organised by Epicure Vietnam, have a Best Steakhouse category; PRIME won it in 2025.
