Why go01

Fat Cow opened in 2011 in Camden Medical Centre on Orchard Boulevard and marked fifteen years in October 2026; it calls itself a modern Japanese steakhouse and builds the menu around A5 wagyu from named prefectures, cooked over binchotan or served as shabu shabu and sukiyaki. In 2017 the Michelin Guide included it among its recommended places in Singapore for a meat feast, citing wagyu grades from three Japanese prefectures and breeds from Australia. The room is wabi-sabi in spirit, with ceramic walls, a lattice ceiling, three dining areas, a bar facing the open kitchen and an eight-seat omakase counter, the Chef's Table.

03The beef

The beef is mostly Japanese and named by place, which makes it easy to choose as a table: Honeycombers lists A5 from Ohmi, Akune Gold and Matsusaka, and Akune Gold is produced by Mizusako in Kagoshima prefecture. The 2023 omakase drew on Hokkaido, Tochigi, Gunma, Ohmi, Matsusaka, Nagasaki, Miyazaki and Kagoshima, and Chope adds farms in Shiretoko, Hida and Saga. Eatbook notes that beef is imported directly from producers in Japan, the United States and Australia, and a May 2026 sukiyaki lunch set Akune Gold A5 beside Korean hanwoo at S$78++.

04The fire

Several dishes, the steak among them, are cooked over binchotan charcoal, and a Tatler Asia profile describes a Japanese charcoal grill at the centre of the main room with seats around a U-shaped counter.

05The story

Fat Cow is a Commonwealth Concepts brand, the group that also runs MIYOSHI by Fat Cow. In 2018 the kitchen was led by Shigeru Kasajima, a Japanese chef with decades of French training; in 2023 chef Shingo Iijima ran it and created a new wagyu omakase. For the fifteenth anniversary it held a single six-course Kagoshima wagyu dinner with five sakes on 15 October 2026, at S$238++ a head.
