Why go

Les Provinces suits a late morning at the Aligre market, when you want lunch without leaving the bustle. It is a working butcher's shop at 20 rue d'Aligre that cooks too: Time Out described in 2013 how the butcher Christophe Dru turned his shop into a restaurant after hosting tastings for the Le Fooding festival, and its June 2026 list still names it for steak tartare, entrecôte cooked rare and pork chops, at tables or standing counters. The meat is priced by weight at the counter and cooked quickly on the plancha for a flat charge, given as €9 in 2013, 2017 and 2026.

What to order

  • Entrecôte (rib-eye)
  • Steak tartare
  • Faux-filet (sirloin)

02The practical

20 rue d'Aligre, 75012; metro Ledru-Rollin or Faidherbe-Chaligny. Time Out counted 22 seats and no bookings, so come early, especially at weekends. Phone 01 43 43 91 64. There is no website, only a Facebook page, and published hours disagree (Time Out in 2017: Tuesday to Sunday, until 14:00 on weekdays and 15:00 at weekends), so call before you go.
