Why go
This is the steakhouse of the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong in Wan Chai, for the dinner that calls for a hotel dining room, with leather booths, a wine room and a private table for the group. SCMP's 100 Top Tables 2026 describes an old-school steakhouse atmosphere and a global beef selection, in a dark, Manhattan-style room with wooden details and plush leather booths. It has appeared in every edition of that guide from 2013 to 2025 and again in 2026, and Opinionated About Dining lists it as Highly Recommended in its Casual in Asia ranking for 2026.

01What to order
- Hanwoo rib-eye, 24 ozOne of SCMP's three must-try dishes, for the table to share. In January 2024 Foodie priced the 12 oz Hanwoo rib-eye and striploin at HK$1,200 each.
- Jumbo lump crab cakeMaryland crab cakes with lump crabmeat are listed by SCMP as a signature.
- Bone marrowAnother of SCMP's must-try dishes, and part of the order Foodie's reviewer recommended.
- French onion soupTopped with melted Gruyère; HK$180 in Foodie's 2024 review.
- Steak tartarePrepared at the table, according to the En Primeur Club listing.
- Apple crumbleWith vanilla ice cream; Foodie lists a Washington apple crumble at HK$120 in 2024.
02The beef
The beef comes from several countries. SCMP names USDA Prime, Australian wagyu, Japanese A5 wagyu and Korean Hanwoo; En Primeur Club adds Mayura Station wagyu, an Australian wagyu tasting selection and a Canadian Angus porterhouse. Foodie's 2024 review said the steaks are imported from the US, Australia, Canada and Korea. It described the Hanwoo as roughly half meat and half fat and less fatty than wagyu, and noted that few Hong Kong steakhouses serve it. Neither SCMP nor Foodie gives aging days or a wagyu grade, so Steakpedia does not.
03The fire
SCMP says the beef is charcoal-grilled. No source consulted names the grill, the charcoal or the temperature.
04The story
The Grand Hyatt Hong Kong sits at 1 Harbour Road in Wan Chai. A Foodie review of 2024 says the hotel steakhouse opened in 2011, and in September 2012 the hotel reported a newly opened upper level on the mezzanine with two private rooms: one over the hotel lobby for up to 12, and one with its own bar for up to 36. The 2024 review described oak tables, orange and pink chandeliers, Renaissance-style paintings, a geometric silver ceiling and purple drapes. The hotel's page mentions a wine room and a cigar tasting room.
