Why go

In 1958 the Golden Steer opened in Las Vegas; Time Out calls it the city's longest-running steakhouse, and its regulars, by the accounts of Time Out and Wine Spectator, included Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe and Muhammad Ali. On Jan. 23, 2026, it opened its second location, and the first outside Las Vegas, in Greenwich Village. The reason to go is the transfer itself: a mid-century Las Vegas steakhouse menu, with tableside Caesar salad, bananas Foster and a 50 oz porterhouse, set inside a 1920s Art Deco building by Washington Square Park. Time Out added it to its list of New York steakhouses in April 2026.

01What to order

  • Shorthorn cut (NY strip)The steak Time Out says the house is known for; a steak blog describes it as a 16 oz boneless strip.
  • Porterhouse, 50 ozThe Infatuation, in April 2026, suggests it as the centerpiece for a large group.
  • Prime rib14 oz and 20 oz cuts, per Time Out and the same blog; carved on a long board "Vegas Style" for the table.
  • Caesar salad, made tablesideOne of the Las Vegas dishes kept in New York, with bananas Foster and cherries jubilee for dessert.
  • Beef-trimmings sausageA New York-only dish, per NRN, alongside veal saltimbocca and chicken with porcini and marsala.

02The beef

Every report describes USDA Prime steaks. Time Out's April 2026 list says they are dry-aged for 35 days. A steak blog that reviewed the room in February 2026 lists filets of 8 and 12 oz, a 24 oz rib eye, a 45 oz tomahawk and the 50 oz porterhouse, and writes that the rib eye and porterhouse are dry-aged while the strip and the prime rib are not noticeably so. Steakpedia could not read the house's menu to settle it, and no source names a supplier. The number: 35 days, per Time Out.

03The fire

No source read by Steakpedia names the grill, broiler or fuel used in the New York kitchen, which is run by executive chef Brendan Scott, formerly of Carne Mare and Montrachet.

04The story

The Las Vegas original keeps its stories close: Galerie writes that cowboys donated the rifles that hang over its dining room in the late 1950s, and that a booth carries the name of Tony 'the Ant' Spilotro; the restaurant appears in the 1995 film Casino. Nick McMillan and Amanda Signorelli, a married couple, took over its operation in 2019, and Signorelli, second generation of the owning family, told Time Out in March 2025 that the family's New York ties led them east. They took the street-level room of One Fifth Avenue, a building NRN dates to 1927, after Otto Enoteca Pizzeria and Marc Forgione's Trattoria One Fifth. The cocktail list draws on the #1 Bar, the building's first tenant, opened in 1934. Steakpedia uses 1958 for the house and 2026 for this room.

05The practical

1 Fifth Avenue, at Washington Square Park, Greenwich Village. Wine Spectator gave the hours as Tuesday to Saturday, 5 to 10 p.m.; Steakpedia could not confirm them on the house's site. The room has 167 seats, designed by Modellus Novus, with a 16-seat cocktail lounge, a corridor called The Strip, a Showgirl Room and a Mob Room. The wine list runs to 285 bottles, under wine director Artem Raetckii. The Infatuation places it in its highest price band; no menu with prices was available to Steakpedia.
