Why go

Prime Steak Club is a large room on Paseo de la Reforma. Forbes México reported seating for up to 450 across halls, lookouts and terraces, a large terrace, and a private event room with its own bar and kitchen, all beside the roundabout of the Ángel de la Independencia. The house was announced for the first Saturday of December 2021 as the 40th venue of Sonora Grill Group, and in 2022 it ranked No. 38 in World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants. It describes itself as a steakhouse that blends Mexican cooking with international flavors, and its menu is organized by cut rather than by course: New York, porterhouse, Denver, chuletón, tenderloin, Kobe, Japanese wagyu and a rib eye taken apart by section.

02The beef

The menu draws on three kinds of beef. Black Angus is named on the 1 kg / 2.2 lb chuletón and on every rib eye section. "Elite Prime" grading runs across the New York, porterhouse and tenderloin. Wagyu comes as Australian crosses at MB 8–9, a Denver at 9+, Japanese wagyu and A5+ Kobe, both sold by the 100 g / 3.5 oz. Bloomberg Línea (2022) gave the origins as the United States, Australia and Japan and said the beef is aged wet and dry; the current online menu states no aging for any cut. Weights on the menu are raw weights.

03The fire

Bloomberg Línea (2022) says the meat is cooked on a high-temperature grill. The menu gives the Denver a wood-fire flavor and lists asparagus a la leña. No source names the fuel, charcoal or wood, or the make of the grill.

04The story

Sonora Grill Group began in 2004 as Sonora Taco Grill, a five-table taco shop for cuts of beef on the corner of División del Norte and Eje 5 Sur in colonia Del Valle, opened by Ricardo Añorve, according to Excélsior in 2022. Forbes México (November 2021) presented Prime Steak Club as the newest venue and the group's 40th, with the opening announced for early December that year, and with further openings planned for Los Cabos, Nuevo Vallarta and Cancún. In 2022 it placed No. 38 in World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants, alongside two other Mexican entries. Time Out México's report on the 2025 list names only Holsteins, in Monterrey, as the Mexican entry that year.
