Why go

The only decisions here are how you like your steak and whether the wine is red or white. Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecôte serves a single menu, the same as its Paris original, which has offered one dish since 1959: a walnut salad, then grilled sirloin with the house sauce and thin, crisp frites, served in two rounds. The menu is £33 on the house's London page. Marylebone was the group's first restaurant outside France, and the house says it has been running for more than 15 years. There are no bookings, so it suits an unplanned evening near Oxford Street, as long as you are happy to queue at busy times.

02The beef

One cut: the contre-filet, the French name for sirloin, grilled and sliced, under the sauce the house calls famous and keeps secret. The house does not publish the origin, breed or aging of the beef. Harden's describes the format in its 2026 entry as a no-choice menu of salad, steak and frites, with a second helping included.

03The fire

The house says only that the contre-filet is well grilled. No source names the grill or its fuel.

04The story

The concept began in Paris in 1959 with Paul Gineste de Saurs, per The Caterer, and the house still writes "depuis 1959" above its menu. Harden's notes that the Paris original opened in the premises of a bankrupt Italian restaurant, which is where the Venice in the name comes from. Marylebone came first in London: in January 2009, when the second London branch opened on 5 Throgmorton Street in the City with 160 covers, The Caterer called Marylebone Village the first, and the salad and steak frites then cost £19. A Soho branch has since closed; Marylebone and the City remain. The house describes the Marylebone room as identical to Paris in atmosphere, décor and menu.
