Why go01
Keyakizaka suits the evening when you want the cook and the plate in front of you and a hotel around you: a 32-seat counter on the fourth floor of the Grand Hyatt Tokyo, where the season's ingredients are laid out like a market stall and each guest picks what goes on the iron plate. It also has a beef of its own, a Tokyo-raised Japanese Black launched in 2017. Tabelog named it to its Tabelog 100 steak list in 2021 and to the steak and teppanyaki EAST list in 2025, and scores it 3.59 from 567 reviews.

02What to order
- Keyakizaka BeefThe house's own beef, still named on the current menu; at its 2017 launch it came as a course at ¥26,000, a 120 g tenderloin at ¥11,500 and a 150 g sirloin at ¥10,000, before tax and service.
- Dinner coursesFrom ¥19,800, tax included, plus 15 % service; lunch courses start at ¥6,930.
- The reservation-only dinnerA dinner course offered only on advance booking, which changes with each reservation.
- Wagyu and imported steaksThe menu also lists wagyu from across Japan and imported fillet and sirloin, so the table can order more than one beef.
03The beef
Keyakizaka Beef is Japanese Black (kuroge washu) sold as Akikawa beef, Tokyo's only beef brand at about 140 head a year. It is raised by the Takeuchi farm in Akiruno, Tokyo, on a ration of its own with quinoa, cacao, blueberries and seaweed. At its launch the hotel stated grade A4 to A5, heifers only, slaughtered at 30 months, with four or five animals chosen each month.
04The fire
The fire is the teppan, the iron griddle, set into tables of walnut wood.
05The story
The Grand Hyatt Tokyo opened in 2003 as part of Roppongi Hills, and Keyakizaka is its teppanyaki restaurant, presented by the hotel as Keyakizaka Teppanyaki. On 1 November 2017 it launched its own beef, Keyakizaka Beef; the head chef, 本多良信, already held the post at that launch. In 2014 Metropolis described it as a Michelin-starred restaurant.
06The practical
Keyakizaka is on the fourth floor of the Grand Hyatt Tokyo, 6-10-3 Roppongi; you enter from the hotel's sixth floor or from Roppongi Hills West Walk 4F. Lunch runs 11:30–14:30 (15:00 on weekends and holidays) and dinner 17:30–21:00, last order. Besides the 32 counter seats there is a private room for six, Kurumi, named for walnut, with a room charge of ¥7,700 at lunch and ¥15,400 at dinner; the room uses walnut, washi paper, cedar and oak. Dress is smart casual, and Tabelog bookings hold the table for 90 minutes at lunch and two hours at dinner, so book the private room early if the evening is a celebration.
